Bodies Under Pressure

Bodies Under Pressure examines how family, peers, media, and significant others in Turkish and Iranian societies contribute to women's body dissatisfaction, disordered eating, and cosmetic surgery attitudes, while also exploring factors that can strengthen body appreciation. With a culturally sensitive approach, Dr. Mahsa Rouhi Maleki, offers an in-depth analysis of the social and psychological forces that shape women's body image in distinctive but intertwined communities. Her research illuminates the role of social com- parisons, internalization of beauty ideals, thin-ideal pressures, and possible protections, while bridging two geographical con- texts often left apart. This book is essential reading for researchers, clinicians, policymakers, and anyone interested in the complex dynamics of body image issues across different societies. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Dr. Mahsa Rouhi Maleki was born in Iran and completed her B.A. and M.A, in Clinical Psychology at the University of Tabriz.
